Hive is delighted to announce that we are now an official Arts Award Centre.
Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it’s creative, valuable and accessible. Arts Award can be achieved at five levels, four accredited qualifications and an introductory award.
Hive is offering the Arts Award Discover introductory level in February 2016. To achieve Discover, children and young people discover the arts around them, find out about artists and their work and share their experiences with others, gaining a certificate at the end. Arts Award Discover will usually take about 20 hours to comple
‘Arts Award Discover is an amazing opportunity for the children to take part in. It’s really easy to organise the project using a topic from our creative curriculum. The children thoroughly enjoy the activities and working in the Arts Award log books – another special touch – which gives the Arts Award framework the high profile that it deserves.’ Sheron Bentley, Teacher, Victoria Park Primary in Smethwick
Arts Award Discover @Hive will run during half term on the 16th, 17th, 18th & 19th February 2016. Each day will begin at 10am and finish at 3pm. This award is open to children age 7+ and there are 12 places available. Parents are welcome to attend the course with their children if they would like or it is possible to drop off and pick up at 3pm when the day finishes. Children will need to bring a packed lunch. The cost for the course is £85 per child and they will receive their Discover certificate on completion of the award.

The Great Pottery Throw Down @Hive
Well I don’t know about you but I am loving watching this new #BBC show. Every weekend my daughter and I catch up with what’s been going on in Stoke with the contestants of the show. My daughters top present on the Christmas list is a pot throwing session, I want to make a basin and the phone is ringing off the hook at Hive for places on ceramics courses. Luckily for us and you the WEA has given us the thumbs up for 3 new pottery courses at Hive.
We also have ceramicist Gillian Cordingley offering 1-1 tuition for Throwing for those of you that need to get to grips with the trials and tribulations of pot throwing. These are £35 for 1.5 hours and can be booked at a time to suit. These sessions are wonderful gift ideas.
